Kings Academy Learning Center (“we”, “the school”) runs this website so that students in kindergarten through 12th grade can learn online. Many of our students are under 13, so we follow the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices parents have.
Parents create every student account
Children can’t sign up by themselves. A parent or legal guardian creates a family account, confirms their email address, and gives consent before adding a child. Parents can see their children’s work and grades at any time.
What we collect
From parents: name, email address, phone number (optional), password, and a record of when you gave consent.
About each child (entered by the parent): first name, last name, grade, a username and a password. Children don’t need an email address.
While a child uses the site: lesson progress, quiz answers and scores, work they turn in (written answers and any files they attach), grades and teacher feedback, and when they last logged in. Our server also records IP addresses and basic browser information for security.
How we use it
- To run the school: show each student their classes, lessons and assignments, and let teachers grade work.
- To keep parents informed, for example an email when a child receives a new grade.
- To keep accounts secure.
We use children’s information only for schooling. We don’t show advertising, we don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t use it for marketing.
Who can see a child’s information
- The child and their parent or guardian.
- Teachers and staff for the child’s grade level. Teachers see the student’s first name and last initial, grade, progress and work.
- Other students do not see a child’s work or grades.
We share information with outside services only as needed to run the school: our web host stores the website and its data, and our email service delivers school emails. Live classes take place in video meeting services such as Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, which have their own privacy policies; we don’t send them children’s account information.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you logged in. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Parents’ choices and rights
- Review: see your child’s progress, work and grades on your My Family page, or ask us for a copy of the information we hold.
- Change: update your child’s grade or password on your My Family page.
- Delete and stop collection: delete your child’s account from your My Family page at any time. This permanently removes the account, progress and work. You can also ask us to delete your whole family account.
How long we keep information
We keep information while the account is active. When an account is deleted, the account, progress and submitted work are deleted. Backup copies are overwritten within about 30 days.
Keeping information safe
Passwords are stored encrypted. Work that students turn in is kept in private storage that can only be opened by the student, their parent and their teachers. The site uses a secure (HTTPS) connection.
Changes
If we make important changes to how we handle children’s information, we will email parents before the changes take effect.
